HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder can affect all
3 individuals regardless of racial, ethnic, economic, and social
4 groups; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder is more common than
6 pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined; and
 
7     WHEREAS, It is diagnosed in 1 in 110 individuals in the
8 United States based on the 2007 CDC statistics; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The cause of Autism Spectrum Disorder is still
10 unknown but research strongly suggests that it is caused by
11 certain factors that affect brain development; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder has increased tenfold in
13 the last decade and now occurs in some form in 1 in 90 boys in
14 the United States; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Autism, which is four times more common in boys
16 than girls, usually appears during the first three years of
17 life; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Early diagnosis, research, training, education,
19 and therapies are vital to reducing the effects of Autism; and

1     WHEREAS, Current research suspects that there is not a
2 single cause that will ultimately be discovered but rather a
3 cluster of factors which include genetics, pregnancy/birth
4 complications, viral infections, metabolic disorders,
5 congenital anomaly syndrome (birth defects), and environmental
6 toxins; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 designate April 28, 2010 as Autism Lobby Day in the State of
10 Illinois for the purpose of urging both government and its
11 citizenry to become aware and educated on the subject of Autism
12 Spectrum Disorders.
