HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation has selected
3 Samuel D. Golden to receive the Rabbi Hayim Goren Perelmuter
4 Memorial Award in recognition of his leadership, dedication,
5 and service; and
 
6     WHEREAS, After joining the KAM temple in 1950 with his
7 wife, Paula Adler, he became the chairman of the KAM Schools
8 Committee and a member of the Board; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was a principal draftsman of the merger
10 agreement, constitution, and by-laws that joined KAM Temple
11 with Isaiah Israel; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He served as president of the congregation for
13 three years, during which time he engaged architects to
14 complete an addition, including a chapel, community hall, and
15 garden; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Sam, after his tenure as president, continues to
17 serve on the Weinstein and Perelmuter memorial committees; and
 
18     WHEREAS, His two sons, Daniel and Jonathan, were Bar
19 Mitzvah in the temple and his daughter Miriam was Bat Mitzvah;

1     WHEREAS, As a cellist, he has contributed to numerous
2 services at the temple; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Sam has been very active in advocacy for the
4 mentally retarded because of his daughter Anne; he has served
5 on the board and as a committee chairman for the Voice of the
6 Retarded, a national advocacy organization supporting choice
7 in residential arrangements for the mentally retarded;
8 therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate Samuel D. Golden on being chosen as the KAM Isaiah
12 Israel Congregation's recipient of the Rabbi Hayim Goren
13 Perelmuter Memorial Award, and we applaud his lifetime of
14 service and dedication to his congregation; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Samuel D. Golden and KAM Isaiah Israel as an
17 expression of our respect and esteem.
