HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Commander Karen
4 Miller of the Addison Police Department on her retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Commander Karen L. Miller has served the Addison
6 Police Department for 25 years; she started her career in the
7 Dispatch Department and then was assigned to the Patrol
8 Division for 8 years; in 1993 she was named the full time
9 D.A.R.E./Crime Prevention Officer for the Department; her
10 message of influence to make the right choice to not use drugs
11 or alcohol was heard by over 1,000 5th grade students; and
 
12     WHEREAS, She developed many programs that engage citizens
13 in the community and offer tools to avoid becoming a victim of
14 a crime or a disaster; programs created under her leadership
15 are: Citizens Police Academy Senior Citizen Police Academy,
16 C.O.P.S. (Citizens on Patrol), V.I.P.S. (Volunteers In
17 Policing Service), S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Law-enforcement
18 Together), and C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team);
19 and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 2001, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
21 and assigned to Planning Research and Development and Grants;
22 she became the CALEA Accreditation manager for the Department

1 and the supervisor of the Crime Prevention and D.A.R.E. Units,
2 including the Student Participation Center; and
 
3     WHEREAS, In 2005, she was transferred to supervise both the
4 Traffic Unit and the Crime Prevention Unit; in 2006, she was
5 promoted to the rank of Watch Commander; and in 2007, she was
6 assigned to oversee the development of the Community Response
7 Unit; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Commander Miller is a graduate of the Northwestern
9 University School of Police Staff and Command and also a
10 graduate of the FBI National Academy Session #226; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She is an avid athlete and an ambassador of
12 physical fitness and wellness; an accomplished Ironman
13 Triathlete, she helped raise funds for two playgrounds in
14 Addison; and she has completed more than 35 marathons in her
15 lifetime; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 congratulate Commander Karen Miller on her retirement and thank
19 her for her years of service to the people of Addison and the
20 State of Illinois; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
