HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, 200,000 Illinois students learn differently
3 because of a print disability and cannot fully comprehend the
4 printed words on a page; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic provides
6 accessible educational material for students with print
7 disabilities; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Scientific research published by Johns Hopkins
9 University found that students with learning disabilities who
10 used Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic performed better on
11 tests measuring content acquisition, demonstrating a 38
12 percent increase in content acquisition; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Rutgers University found that students who used
14 Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic improved their reading rate
15 and reading accuracy; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic helps to unlock
17 the mind and the dreams of individuals living with print
18 disabilities and helps them become more educated, independent,
19 and productive citizens; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic provides lesson

1 plans, training, and technical support to educators; and
 
2     WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education has
3 expressed enthusiastic support for Recording for the Blind &
4 Dyslexic and has undertaken a partnership that supports better
5 services and outcomes for students in the State of Illinois;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 declare the week of April 16-30, 2010 as Recording for the
10 Blind & Dyslexic Week in the State of Illinois; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic as a symbol of
14 our support.
