HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Kathleen
4 Heinrich's fifth grade class at Eagle Pointe Elementary in
5 Plainfield for their hard work in implementing the school's
6 healthy foods initiative; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The class was inspired by the Time for Kids news
8 article: "A Fresh Look at Lunch" to create a menu of healthy
9 school lunch ideas; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dr. Heinrich's fifth grade class took an active
11 role in State government by inviting Representative Tom Cross
12 to discuss their ideas to promote healthier school lunch
13 programs; and
 
14     WHEREAS, On January 21, 2010, Representative Tom Cross
15 visited Eagle Pointe Elementary School, where students
16 presented their healthy foods initiative and explained the
17 reasons for eating the right foods; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The fifth grade class further revealed that most
19 schools prepare fewer than half of their main courses from
20 scratch, and outlined ideas on how schools could start
21 preparing lunches from locally grown natural ingredients,

1 instead of packaged foods; and
 
2     WHEREAS, The class's ideas emphasized purchasing fresh
3 food from local farms to not only help kids practice healthier
4 choices, but to also connect schools with communities; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Eagle Pointe Elementary School has included Dr.
6 Heinrich's fifth grade class's healthy food choices into its
7 school lunch menu; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dr. Heinrich's fifth grade class serves as a model
9 to other schools to promote healthy food choices in school
10 menus; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13 congratulate Dr. Kathleen Heinrich's fifth grade class at Eagle
14 Pointe Elementary in Plainfield for all of their hard work and
15 dedication to promoting awareness about how important it is to
16 have healthy school lunches in Illinois; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Dr. Kathleen Heinrich's fifth grade class members
19 as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
