HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edward P.
4 Morrissey of Sandwich, who passed away on August 2, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 18, 1943 in Chicago, the
6 son of Dennis J. and Margaret Scott Morrissey; he married Elsie
7 Campbell in 1984; he was a 1961 graduate of Loyola Academy in
8 Wilmette, where he was co-captain of the football team; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He joined the Jesuit Society of Jesus from 1961 to
10 1968; during his time in the Jesuit seminary at Milford, Ohio,
11 he obtained a bachelor degree in Classics (Latin and Greek); he
12 taught English and Sociology at St. Xavier High School and
13 coached soccer during this time; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He graduated from Boston College in 1967 with a
15 degree in Philosophy; he received his Juris Doctor in 1974 from
16 Creighton University Law School in Omaha, Nebraska; he
17 practiced law in Elmhurst and was a Cook County Assistant
18 State's Attorney before marrying Elsie (Campbell) in 1984; he
19 practiced family law in Sandwich for 22 years; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 1994, he ran for Circuit Court Judge for the
21 16th Judicial Circuit and for De Kalb County State's Attorney

1 in 1996; in 2006, he made a career change to teach Latin at
2 Aurora Central Catholic High School; and
 
3     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis J.
4 and Margaret (Scott) Morrissey; and his brother, John
5 (Georgann) Morrissey; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Edward Morrissey is survived by his beloved wife
7 of 25 years, Elsie (Campbell); his children, Carrie (John)
8 Libetti, Clete Campbell, Clayton Campbell, Paul, Dorothy, and
9 Laura Morrissey; his wife's nephew, Paul Sipes; his four
10 siblings, Mary (Robert) Moroney, Joseph (Joan) Morrissey,
11 Dennis (Helen) Morrissey, and Richard (Althea) Morrissey;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edward
16 Morrissey; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Edward Morrissey as a symbol of our
19 sincere sympathy.
