HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4 Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth of Oakland, who was killed in
5 the line of duty while serving in Helmand, Afghanistan, on
6 February 8, 2009; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Jared W. Southworth was born on May 28, 1982 in
8 Mattoon, the oldest son of Robert and Kimberly Pierson
9 Southworth; he was raised and educated in Oakland, and
10 graduated from Oakland High School in 2000; he later graduated
11 from Lakeland College, and Eastern Illinois University, where
12 he was in the ROTC program; and
 
13     WHEREAS, On March 24, 2001 he married Chrissy Lynn Royer at
14 the Oakland Christian Church; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Jared was a Lieutenant in the HHC 2/130 Infantry
16 Division of the Illinois National Guard, and was a United
17 States Army Ranger; he lived his life by the motto "God,
18 Family, Country"; he was a member of the Oakland Christian
19 Church, was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother, and
20 loved the National Guard, considering it his privilege to serve
21 his country; and

1     WHEREAS, Jared served the community of Oakland as a
2 part-time police officer, and befriended many; he will always
3 be remembered for his abilities on the baseball field, and for
4 his general love of life; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother,
6 Ettoil Coon; his paternal grandfather, William Southworth; and
7 his maternal grandfather, Robert Pierson; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth is survived by his
9 wife, Chrissy Southworth; his four children, Logan, age 7,
10 Owen, age 6, Carly, age 3, and Ally, age 2; his parents, Bob
11 and Kim Southworth; his brother, Michael Southworth and his
12 fiancée, Katie O'Connor; his sister, Nikki Bancroft and her
13 husband, Brian; his nephew, Preston Bancroft; his paternal
14 grandmother, Karen Watson; and his maternal grandparents, Gene
15 and Joan Hartke; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation,
19 the passing of Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth; and be it
20 further
 
21     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Jared Southworth and
22 his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth as a
4 symbol of our respect and sincere sympathy.
