HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The City of Herrin in Williamson County strongly
3 supports the renaming of the portion of Herrin Road/County Road
4 2 between Interstate 57 and Highway 149 to the U.S.M.C. Private
5 Joseph W. Ozbourn Memorial Highway; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Private Joseph William Ozbourn was born in Herrin
7 on October 24, 1919; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Ozbourn was
9 commissioned on March 5, 1946 at the Boston Naval Shipyard by
10 his widow; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Private Ozbourn was awarded the Medal of Honor for
12 his gallantry in battle; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Numerous organizations in Herrin, including the
14 VFW-Southern Leathernecks, the MCL-Knights of Columbus, the
15 American Legion, and the Elks Club, are sponsoring a change in
16 a portion of Herrin Road/County Road 2 in honor of Private
17 Ozbourn; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
20 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of

1 Herrin Road/County Road 2 between Interstate 57 and Highway 149
2 as the U.S.M.C. Private Joseph W. Ozbourn Memorial Highway; and
3 be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
5 is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
6 State regulations, plaques or signs giving notice of the name;
7 and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9 presented to the Illinois Secretary of Transportation and the
10 Herrin City Council.
