5 ILCS 490/150 new

    Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates each February 28th as a day for the commemoration of and reflection upon the contributions of African American slaves to Illinois and the United States. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by
5 adding Section 150 as follows:
 
6     (5 ILCS 490/150 new)
7     Sec. 150. Commemoration of contributions of African
8 American slaves. February 28 of each year is designated as a
9 day for the people of this State to commemorate and reflect
10 upon the contributions of African American slaves to Illinois
11 and to the United States.
 
12     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
13 becoming law.
