SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2805/2.08 new

    Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Provides that the Department may make grants to employees of veterans medical facilities for the purpose of obtaining a professional degree or certification. Requires that an employee's application for a grant be approved by the facility at which he or she is employed. Provides that, as a condition of receiving a grant, an employee must agree to continue his or her employment at the facility for 4 years after successfully completing the degree or certification program. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is
5 amended by adding Section 2.08 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 2805/2.08 new)
7     Sec. 2.08. Education grants for employees of veterans
8 medical facilities. The Department may make grants to employees
9 of veterans medical facilities for the purpose of obtaining a
10 professional degree or certification. The Department shall
11 prescribe the form and manner of applying for a grant. An
12 employee's application for a grant must be approved by the
13 facility at which he or she is employed before it may be
14 approved by the Department. As a condition of receiving a
15 grant, an employee must agree to continue his or her employment
16 at the facility for 4 years after successfully completing the
17 degree or certification program.
 
18     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
