SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Joseph Roosevelt Peabody of East St.
4 Louis, who passed away on May 6, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody was born on December 23, 1934 in
6 East St. Louis; his parents were Clifford and Rosie Lee
7 (Washington) Peabody; he was the fourth of five children; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody attended the East St. Louis Public
9 Schools and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School; upon his
10 honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he enrolled at
11 Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, where he received his
12 Bachelor of Arts degree; he then completed a Master of Social
13 Work degree from St. Louis University; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody held various positions in the field
15 of social services; he was employed as a social worker with
16 Illinois Public Aid; he served as Director of the Governor
17 Ogilvie Office of Human Resources in East St. Louis; he served
18 as Executive Director of the Economic Opportunity Commission
19 and the Southwestern Illinois Agency on Aging; he served as
20 School District 189's Division Director; he was employed with
21 the East Side Health District; and he served as an Asthma
22 Counselor for Washington University; and

1     WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody's dedication to the East St. Louis
2 community was demonstrated in his civic accomplishments; in
3 addition to serving as a board member to various organizations,
4 he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; he was
5 also a School Board Member of School District 189 and a
6 Precinct 36 Committee Member; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody married Barbara Jean Savage on
8 December 24, 1961; from that union, three children were born,
9 Kimberly Lynn Peabody, Ph.D., Kraig Roosevelt Peabody, and
10 Kendall Clifford Peabody, MBA (Jaye Lynn); he also had four
11 grandchildren, Adrian Kendall, Kendall Clifford Jr., Jaden
12 Joseph, and Maya Nicole Ina; he had many accomplishments
13 throughout his life, yet he was most proud of his family; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody will be remembered by all who knew
15 and loved him as a charismatic and energetic man, a jovial and
16 kind friend, a generous and dedicated father, a proud and
17 supportive grandfather (PaPa), and a caring and loving husband;
18 therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21 his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Roosevelt
22 Peabody; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Joseph Peabody as an expression of
3 our sympathy.
