SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers of
4 Belleville, who passed away on July 14, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers was born on April
6 23, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri; she was the first born child
7 of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit (Mildred) Jeffers; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers was a 1967 graduate
9 of East St. Louis Sr. High School; after attending college at
10 Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, she returned to
11 her home in Belleville and became an employee of the Illinois
12 Department of Public Aid, where she worked with the Aide to
13 Dependent Children, Child Support, and Nursing/Medical
14 divisions before her retirement in 2003; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers was able to share
16 her joy and pride of African American history through her
17 annual presentations, where she shared literature, art,
18 pictures, music, poetry, and speeches with many people; the
19 annual events allowed her to truly shine and use her love for
20 the arts, history, travel, and photography in her ministry; her
21 travels took her to Germany, Australia, Africa, and many places
22 in the United States; and

1     WHEREAS, Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers was a life long
2 member of the Methodist family that is currently known as
3 Trinity United Methodist Church; her faith was seen in all that
4 she did as a child, youth, and as an adult; she served as a
5 liturgist, leader for the Methodist Youth Fellowship, Youth
6 Choir Director, and as a member of the adult choir, usher
7 board, Committee on Staff Parish, and the Trustee Board; she
8 was devoted to the United Methodist Women, where she was a past
9 president of the group's local unit and served as Chairman of
10 her local sub-group, Mary; she served as Coordinator of Program
11 Resource for Trinity United Methodist Women, Secretary of
12 Resource for the United Methodist Women of the Illinois Great
13 Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church, and the
14 Mississippi River District UMW Conference Representative for
15 the Cunningham Children's Home; and she was a member of the
16 Board of Directors for the Denverside Housing Complex for the
17 Illinois Great Rivers Conference; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers is survived by her
19 parents; her brother, Kermit P. Jeffers; her sister, Portia
20 (Isaiah) Bell McCrary; her nephew, Kyle C. Jeffers; her nieces,
21 Whitney E. Bell, Vivica L. McCrary, and Chelsea A. Jeffers; her
22 aunt, Cleopatra J. Jenkins; the members of the Officer family;
23 her many cousins, friends, and former co-workers; and the many
24 members of the Trinity United Methodist Church; therefore, be

2     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
4 her family and friends, the passing of Millicent Joann Brown
5 Jeffers; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Millicent Joann Brown Jeffers as an
8 expression of our sympathy.
