1     AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Criminal Identification Act is amended by
5 adding Section 9.5 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 2630/9.5 new)
7     Sec. 9.5. Material for DNA fingerprint analysis. Every
8 county medical examiner and coroner shall provide to the
9 Department a sample of dried blood and buccal specimens (tissue
10 may be submitted if no uncontaminated blood or buccal specimens
11 can be obtained) from a dead body for DNA fingerprint analysis
12 if the Department notifies the medical examiner or coroner that
13 the Department has determined that providing that sample may be
14 useful for law enforcement purposes in a criminal
15 investigation. In addition, if a local law enforcement agency
16 notifies a county medical examiner or coroner that such a
17 sample would be useful in a criminal examination, the county
18 medical examiner or coroner shall provide a sample to the local
19 law enforcement agency for submission to the Department.
