HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Canton Fire Chief
4 John Stanko on the occasion of his retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Chief Stanko served as chief of the Canton Fire
6 Department for eight years prior to his decision to retire; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Chief Stanko served the Canton Fire Department for
8 34 years, starting his career in 1973 as a volunteer
9 firefighter; he was later appointed a Canton Firefighter in
10 1975 and continued to move up the ranks, serving as a
11 lieutenant for five years and assistant fire chief for five
12 years before being appointed to the position of chief in April
13 1999; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Chief Stanko was one of the first in the state of
15 Illinois to attain Fire Investigator status when he was sworn
16 in as a Peace Officer on April 1, 1986; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Chief Stanko worked on several major
18 investigative and criminal cases; and
 
19     WHEREAS, During his tenure at the Canton Fire Department,
20 Chief Stanko obtained numerous grants for the Department,

1 including money for a hazardous materials equipment trailer, a
2 technical rescue team trailer with equipment, and a tremendous
3 amount of training; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Chief Stanko plans on spending time in his
5 retirement with his family, including his daughters, Jessica
6 and Lynette, and his wife, Patricia, and working with MABAS, a
7 mutual aid agency between fire departments; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate Fire Chief John Stanko on the occasion of his
11 retirement and thank him for his many years of service
12 protecting the people of Canton; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Chief Stanko as an expression of our gratitude for
15 his service and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
