HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Alice Marie
4 Jacobs, President of Danville Area Community College, on being
5 named Woman of Achievement 2007 by the American Association of
6 University Women; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs has served as President of
8 Danville Area Community College since September of 1999; she is
9 the second woman to hold the position in the College's 60-year
10 history; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Before coming to Danville, Dr. Jacobs served as
12 President of Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois; Vice
13 President of Instruction and Student Development at Cape Fear
14 Community College, Wilmington, North Carolina; Dean of
15 Instruction at Rochester Community College, Rochester,
16 Minnesota; and Dean of Occupational Education and faculty
17 member at Kellogg Community College, Battle Creek, Michigan;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobs is the immediate past President of the
20 Illinois Council of Community College Presidents, an
21 organization representing 39 community college districts and
22 48 colleges in Illinois; she represented that Council with the

1 Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois Community
2 College Board, and the Illinois Community College Trustees
3 Association; and she has also served on the American
4 Association of Community Colleges Commission on Minority
5 Resources and is currently serving on its Commission on
6 Diversity, Inclusiveness, and Equity; and
 
7     WHEREAS, In 2006, Dr. Jacobs was elected to a three-year
8 term on the board of the American Association of Community
9 Colleges; in Danville, Dr. Jacobs served as the first Chair of
10 the Board of Directors for Vermilion Advantage, the merged
11 Economic Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce; she
12 serves as president of the Danville Symphony Orchestra Board,
13 on the Vermilion County Workforce Investment Board, the United
14 Way of Danville Area Board, and the No Child Left Behind
15 District Council; she successfully chaired the 2002 United Way
16 of Danville Area Campaign and has also served on the board of
17 the Danville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; and
 
18     WHEREAS, In 1999, Dr. Jacobs received the Centralia NAACP
19 Outstanding Citizen's Award; in 2002, she received the
20 International Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Shirley B. Gordon
21 Award of Distinction granted to outstanding community college
22 executive officers and the ninth annual Rotary Vocational
23 Service Person of the Year Award from the Danville, Illinois,
24 Noon Rotary Club; Dr. Jacobs was also selected as a 2003 Woman

1 of Distinction by the Girl Scouts Green Meadows Council; and
2 Dr. Jacobs received a special Outstanding Advocacy Award from
3 the Illinois Community College Trustees Association in 2006;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobs received her Ph.D. in College and
6 University Administration from Michigan State University; she
7 also holds an M.A. from Western Michigan University, and a B.S.
8 from Western Michigan University; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs on being named Woman of
12 Achievement 2007 by the American Association of University
13 Women; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs as a symbol of our esteem.
