70 ILCS 705/11h new

    Amends the Fire Protection District Act. Provides that the board of trustees of any fire protection district may establish a program to award grants to certain property owners who install and maintain sprinkler or other fire suppression systems. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by
5 adding Section 11h as follows:
 
6     (70 ILCS 705/11h new)
7     Sec. 11h. Fire suppression grant program. The board of
8 trustees of any fire protection district may, by ordinance,
9 establish a program to award grants to the owners of single
10 family residential properties located within the fire
11 protection district who install and maintain approved
12 sprinkler or other fire suppression systems that meet national
13 standards and are certified by the fire protection district.
14 Any such grant award may be conditioned on the sprinkler or
15 fire suppression system being maintained in good operating
16 condition for a specified term and being subject to inspection
17 to verify the condition of the system on an annual basis.
 
18     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
