Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a person may not operate or permit to be operated on any highway of this State a vehicle with a trailer hitch that extends more than 4 inches beyond the rear of the vehicle, unless that vehicle is towing another vehicle.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| represented in the General Assembly:

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |

| Section 12-614 as follows:

| Sec. 12-614. Trailer hitch; length limit when not in use. A |
| 8 |
| person may not operate or permit to be operated on any highway |
| 9 |
| of this State a vehicle with a trailer hitch that extends more |
| 10 |
| than 4 inches beyond the rear of the vehicle, unless that |
| 11 |
| vehicle is towing another vehicle.
