SENATE RESOLUTION
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Leon Welch, who passed away on November
4 8, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leon Welch was born July 24, 1936 to Sam and
6 Geanie Welch in Anniston, Alabama; he was one of eight
7 children; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He attended Cobb High School where he met Margaret
9 Ann Dobbins, who became his wife; they were married for 49
10 years and from their union Lisa Darlene and Kathryn Virginia
11 were born; and
 
12     WHEREAS, They moved from Anniston to Chicago in 1958 where
13 he worked as a longshoreman for Local 19 for more than thirty
14 years; he later furthered his education, and was the founder of
15 Acetronics Burglar Alarm Systems; he retired as a longshoreman
16 and from his business when his health began to challenge him in
17 1993; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Leon Welch is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann
19 Welch; his daughters, Lisa Welch-Austin (Dwight Austin,
20 son-in-law) and Kathryn Welch; his sister, Eunice Jean Murphy
21 (Calvin Murphy, brother-in-law); his brother, J. C. Welch; his
22 grandson, Dwight Leander Austin; his brother-in-law, John
23 Bradford, Jr.; his nieces, Queen Welch and Libra Murphy; his
24 nephews, Charles Welch, Leander Murphy, Keyon Welch, and
25 Rashard Welch; his great nephew, Bashiri Williams; and a host
26 of extended family and close friends; and
 
27     WHEREAS, Leon Welch was preceded in death by his mother and
28 father, Geanie Welch and Sam Welch, Sr.; his brothers, Sam and
29 Calvin Welch; his sisters, Jessie Welch, Kathryn Welch, and
30 Ethel Welch-Huff; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3 his family and friends, the passing of Leon Welch; and be it
4 further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Leon Welch.
