SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Pastor Elder Jesse Wallace
4 of Waukegan on Tuesday, January 17, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Elder Wallace was born on October 1, 1920 to Jesse
6 Wallace and Susannah Rice Wallace; he married Mother Thelma
7 (Davenport) Wallace; and was a veteran of the United States
8 Navy; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Elder Wallace served faithfully as a Deacon and
10 later became a licensed Minister during his tenure at the
11 Waukegan Church of God In Christ (C.O.G.I.C.); he served as
12 Assistant Pastor at Zion Temple C.O.G.I.C. where he became an
13 ordained Elder; in 1965, he helped establish the Faith
14 Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. in Zion, Illinois; and in 1968 he became
15 Superintendent of the Friendship District where he served until
16 1999; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Jesse Wallace was not only a Spiritual Leader, he
18 was also a leader in business and public service; in 1950, he
19 founded and became CEO of Jesse Wallace Landscaping and Black
20 Topping, Inc.; he assisted people coming from the South to
21 obtain jobs, shelter, and food in the communities he served,
22 particularly after the great flood of 1966; and in 1975, he
23 established the Faith Tabernacle Food Pantry, now known as the
24 Faith Food Pantry, the largest food pantry and relief station
25 in Lake County; and
 
26     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Mother
27 Thelma Wallace; his parents; his son, John A. Jones; and his
28 sisters, Thelma Hill and Edna Young; and
 
29     WHEREAS, The passing of Pastor Elder Jesse Wallace has been
30 deeply felt by many, especially his daughters, Mary Terry

1 Wiley, Theresa Murphy-McElveen, Thelma (John) Southall, and
2 Deborah (Robert) Richards Jr.; his son Elder Henry Eugene
3 (Loretta ) Jones; his oldest grandson, John D. Jones whom he
4 raised; his special daughter-in-law, Juanita (Floyd) Edgecomb;
5 his goddaughters, Victoria Lewis, Yvonne Evans, and Alice
6 Sherrod; his brothers, Clarence (Willa) Wallace, Larry (Doris)
7 Wallace, Theatra Wallace, and Lee (Jimmie) Wallace; his sister,
8 Elenora Hopkins; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren;
9 and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loving
10 Faith Tabernacle Church family; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13 Pastor Elder Jesse Wallace, and we extend our sincerest
14 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15 him; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
18 sympathy for their loss.
