HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Violence against women is a community issue, a
3 public health issue, and a human rights issue; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Violence against women includes domestic and
5 sexual violence, stalking, and other forms of abuse; this
6 violence seeps through communities impacting law enforcement,
7 court systems, and health care professionals; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Violence against women is present in schools and
9 workplaces resulting in absenteeism and physical and mental
10 illnesses; the annual cost of lost productivity due to domestic
11 violence is estimated at $727.8 million with over 7.9 million
12 paid workdays lost per year; and
 
13     WHEREAS, This violence ripples through families causing
14 the cycle of violence to continue from one generation to the
15 next; one in three women worldwide will be beaten, raped,
16 coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime, and
17 evidence shows that most female homicide deaths are the result
18 of an assault by their intimate partner; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The cycle can be broken; Illinois residents should
20 learn to recognize violence against women, learn how to stop it
21 and how to prevent it, and then educate others; therefore, be
22 it
 
23     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we encourage the citizens of Illinois to "Stop the Violence
26 Against Women" by learning to recognize it, stop it, take
27 action to prevent it, and educate others to do the same; and be
28 it further
