HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Assistant to the President Richard H. Dammers is
3 retiring after 34 years of distinguished service to Illinois
4 State University; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He received his A.B. degree in English from Holy
6 Cross College in 1965; his M.A. degree in English from the
7 University of Virginia in 1966; and his Ph.D. in English from
8 the University of Notre Dame in 1971; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Dr. Dammers came to Illinois State University in
10 1971 as an Assistant Professor of English; he was promoted to
11 Associate Professor in 1976 and to Professor in 1983; from 1987
12 to 1994, he served as Coordinator of Student Academic Affairs
13 in the College of Arts and Sciences and, from 1994 to 2000, he
14 served as Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences;
15 he was named Assistant to the President in 2000 and has worked
16 with President Victor Boschini and President Al Bowman; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He has published a book on Richard Steele and has
18 written and presented numerous articles and papers; among
19 honors he has received are a Teacher Appreciation Award from
20 Sigma Tau Delta, the Distinguished Service Award for
21 Administrative Professionals, and the Esprit de Corps Award for
22 Administrative Professionals; and
 
23     WHEREAS, He is a member of the American Society for
24 Eighteenth Century Studies and the National Association of
25 Presidential Assistants in Higher Education (NAPAHE) and
26 serves on the Board of Directors of NAPAHE; therefore, be it
 
27     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we thank Richard H. Dammers for his long record of exemplary
30 service to Illinois State University in teaching, research, and

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to Richard H. Dammers as an expression of our respect
4 and esteem and with our best wishes for his retirement.
