HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Thomas A. Bolger family for years proudly
3 owned the land where the William G. Stratton Lock and Dam on
4 the Fox River currently controls the water flow of the Fox
5 River; and
 
6     WHEREAS, In 1938 and 1939, during the Great Depression, the
7 William G. Stratton Lock and Dam was constructed through labor
8 provided by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps, who
9 used boulders donated by the Bolger family in the construction
10 of the Lock and the Dam; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Thomas A. Bolger was a proud and distinguished
12 member of the McHenry community and was dedicated to serving
13 the interests of the people of that community; as a man who
14 valued education, he was instrumental in forming School
15 District 156; he was first elected as an Illinois State
16 Representative in 1930 and faithfully served the People of the
17 State of Illinois for eleven consecutive terms; and
 
18     WHEREAS, We wish to permanently commemorate the Bolger
19 family's contributions to the people and places of the City of
20 McHenry and the State of Illinois and their historic role in
21 the construction of this important Lock and Dam on Illinois'
22 Fox River; therefore, be it
 
23     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
25 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the William G. Stratton Lock and
26 Dam shall hereafter be known as the William G. Stratton -
27 Thomas A. Bolger Lock and Dam; and be it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Natural
29 Resources is requested to erect appropriate plaques or signs
30 giving notice of the William G. Stratton - Thomas A. Bolger

1 Lock and Dam; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
3 presented to the Secretary of the United States Department of
4 the Interior, the Director of the Illinois Department of
5 Natural Resources, and the Stratton and Bolger families.
