 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were saddened to learn of the death of Eddie Albert
 4    Jackson of East St. Louis on March 14, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was born on May 10,  1919  in  Sweet
 6    Home, Arkansas; and

 7        WHEREAS,   Mr.   Jackson   received  his  elementary  and
 8    secondary education at St.  Bartholomew  Catholic  School  in
 9    Little  Rock,  Arkansas; after his high school graduation, he
10    enrolled in Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana,  but
11    his  college  education  was interrupted with the outbreak of
12    World War II, when he enlisted in the Army and served in  the
13    Pacific theatre; and

14        WHEREAS,  In  1942,  he  united in marriage to Miss Izora
15    Wilder and to this union five children were born; and

16        WHEREAS, After Mr. Jackson's discharge from the Army,  he
17    enrolled  at St. Louis University and received his degree; he
18    began a career in education that spanned more than 36  years;
19    he  was  a  retired  East  St.  Louis District 189 elementary
20    school principal; and

21        WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was a dedicated member  of  the  St.
22    Joseph  Church  Usher Board, the Knights of Columbus, the St.
23    Vincent de Paul Society, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity;  and
24    he  was a past president of the East St. Louis Library Board;
25    and

26        WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson's passing will  be  deeply  felt  by
27    many,  especially  his  brother,  Houston  Holliday;  his two
28    sisters, Agnes and Catherine Holliday; his  three  daughters,
29    Alsandyra Essien, Carmen Lankster, and Janet Jackson; his son
30    and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Ernest and Linda Jackson; his five
31    grandchildren,  Mr.  and  Mrs.  Umana  and  Dawn  Essien, Iko

 1    Essien, Edward, and Alan Lankster; his aunt and uncle,  Eddie
 2    and  Rosvelyn  Langford;  his aunts, Susie Weaver and Mildred
 3    Langford; and  his  many  nieces,  nephews,  cousins,  church
 4    members, and friends; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Jackson  was  preceded  in  death  by  his
 6    parents,  Ernest  and  Prosser  Jackson;  his  brother, Ivory
 7    Jackson; his wife, Izora;  and  his  daughter,  Cecelia  Ann;
 8    therefore, be it

 9        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
10    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
11    Eddie Albert Jackson along with all who knew  and  loved  him
12    and  extend  our  sincere condolences to his family, friends,
13    and community; and be it further

14        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
15    presented  to  the  family  of  Eddie Albert Jackson with our
16    deepest sympathy.
