 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of Senate of the State  of  Illinois
 3    were  saddened  to  learn  of  the  death  of  Phyllis Stepak
 4    McLennon of Oak Park on March 18, 2003 at the age of 59; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mrs. McLennon  was  a  woman  of  many  talents,
 6    graduating from the University of Michigan in 1963, receiving
 7    a  master's  degree in English from Wayne State University in
 8    1969, and pursuing a Ph.D. in  psychology  from  Northwestern
 9    University; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  McLennon  was  involved  in her community
11    through many of her jobs, including working  as  a  freelance
12    editor  of  children's  books,  teaching  psychology  at  the
13    now-closed  YMCA  Community College in Chicago, working for a
14    city-funded vocational program to help young Latino men  earn
15    GEDs  in order to become Chicago police officers, and serving
16    in several other teaching positions; and

17        WHEREAS, In 1968, Mrs. McLennon launched  a  small  North
18    Side  boutique with a start-up investment of $200, a business
19    partner, and a store full of Ice Capades costumes  that  went
20    on  to  become  the store "Presence", which operates today in
21    three locations in Chicago and Evanston; and

22        WHEREAS, Mrs. McLennon's passing will be deeply  felt  by
23    many,  especially  her husband, Peter McLennon, and their two
24    daughters, Sarah and Paula; therefore be it

25        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL
26    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
27    Phyllis Stepak McLennon; and be it further

28        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy of this resolution  be
29    presented to the family of  Phyllis  Stepak  McLennon  as  an
30    expression of our sorrow for their loss.
