HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It is with deep regret that the members of the
3 House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned of
4 the death in Iraq of U.S. Army Private First Class Collier E.
5 Barcus of McHenry on Thursday, July 8, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Collier Edwin Barcus was born on June 14, 1983 to
7 Sandy Barcus and Greg Barcus; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Private First Class Barcus enlisted in the U.S.
9 Army on September 11, 2001 because he wanted to do something to
10 help his country; he followed in the footsteps of his brother,
11 serving as a sniper; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He had been serving in Iraq in support of
13 Operation Iraqi Freedom and lost his life when a sport utility
14 vehicle rigged with a bomb drove into the headquarters shared
15 by U.S. Forces and the Iraqi National Guard allies; after the
16 bomb exploded, insurgents launched 38 mortars at the building;
17 he had previously been rendered partially deaf by a nearby
18 bombing and had the option to return home, but chose to remain
19 in Iraq, committed to making the Iraqi people free; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Private First Class Barcus was a member of the
21 United States Army, serving in the 1st Battalion, 26th
22 Infantry, 1st Infantry Division; he planned on re-enlisting
23 when his tour was scheduled to end in October of 2005; and
 
24     WHEREAS, PFC Barcus loved adventure, horses, and his felt
25 cowboy hat; he was fond of fishing and often proposed impromptu
26 trips to Lake Michigan hours before dawn; he dreamed of owning
27 a ranch in Wyoming; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Private First Class Collier Edwin
29 Barcus has been deeply felt by many, especially his mother,

1 Sandy Barcus; his father, Greg Barcus; his brother, Micah; his
2 sister, Jesse; his aunts, Karen Fueschsl, Michele Shalton, and
3 Gail Schneider; and his many friends; he was preceded in death
4 by his younger sibling, Ty; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 mourn the passing of U.S. Army Private First Class Collier E.
8 Barcus, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family,
9 friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Private First Class
11 Barcus and his willingness to serve his country which led to
12 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of U.S. Army Private First Class
15 Collier E. Barcus as an expression of our sincerest
16 condolences.
