HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Noel
4 Berner Hoyt of Evanston on February 29, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Noel Berner Hoyt lived in Evanston since 1965;
6 after graduation from Marymount College in New York, she worked
7 as an ad writer for Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Chicago; she
8 then dedicated herself to raising her 6 children and her 26
9 year marriage to Tom Hoyt; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Noel was best loved for her adventurous and
11 fun-loving nature; she turned her bedroom into a 15th century
12 Italian villa by hiring a professional artist to paint all four
13 walls, the doors, and the ceiling in the "trompe l'oeil" style;
14 among her many adventures, Noel took her daughters hot-air
15 ballooning in the Loire Valley of France and talked her way
16 into the college-age work crew for a summer-long architectural
17 dig at an Etruscan ruin in La Pieta, Italy; she performed as a
18 supernumerary in a recent performance of the Chicago Opera,
19 where her stage instructions included "Swoosh in. Swoosh out.";
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, Noel loved architecture and would brazenly talk
22 her way into off-limits architectural gems, from the library at
23 Trinity College in Dublin to Lincoln Park mansions undergoing
24 renovations; and
 
25     WHEREAS, To facilitate her adventures she printed phony
26 business cards for herself and friend, Jess Cunniff, stating
27 that they were respectively the President and Chairman of the
28 Urban Studies Institute; with their card and the statement "We
29 are architectural historians", Noel and Jess breezed past
30 security guards and workmen; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Noel Berner Hoyt will be deeply
2 felt by many, especially her children, Joshua (Joanna Brown)
3 Hoyt, Amy (Jim) Knowlton, Darcy Hoyt, Peter (Peggy) Hoyt,
4 Phoebe (Guido) Volla, and Nathaniel Hoyt; her 10 grandchildren;
5 her brother, Robert (Sheila) Berner; and her former husband and
6 lifelong friend, Tom Hoyt; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 mourn the death of Noel Berner Hoyt along with all who knew and
10 loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family and
11 friends; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Noel Berner Hoyt as a token of our
14 deepest sympathy.
