HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Barbara Janes, principal
4 of Mt. Zion Grade School in Mt. Zion, on her retirement on June
5 30, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, In 1961, Barbara graduated from Lindblom Tech High
7 School in Chicago; in 1965, she graduated from Millikin
8 University with a degree in Elementary Education, with
9 additional coursework in speech and reading completed at the
10 University of Illinois and Millikin University; and
 
11     WHEREAS, In 1969, she began her teaching career at Maroa
12 Grade School teaching fourth grade; and
 
13     WHEREAS, In 1985, she returned to school and received a
14 Master of Sciences degree in Education Administration from
15 Sangamon State University, now known as the University of
16 Illinois at Springfield; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mrs. Janes holds a Gifted Level I Certification;
18 she has worked with the Problem Solving program in Decatur and
19 other area school districts; in addition, she has served as the
20 Mt. Zion Schools Technology Director and an Illinois Principals
21 Association officer; and
 
22     WHEREAS, In 1980, she taught first grade at both Mt. Zion
23 Grade School and McGaughey School; she then served as the
24 Dalton City Salem school principal before becoming principal at
25 Mt. Zion Grade School in 1987; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Mrs. Janes is married to Larry, a retired
27 educator; Barbara and Larry have chosen to award a $1,000
28 scholarship to a Mt. Zion High School graduating senior who
29 wishes to pursue a career in elementary education; and

1      WHEREAS, The Barbara Janes Elementary Education
2 Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in May 2004;
3 therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate Barbara Janes on her retirement after 25 years of
7 dedication to the teaching profession; and we wish her well in
8 all of her future endeavors; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Barbara Janes as an token of our respect and
11 esteem.
