HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize important events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
 
5     WHEREAS, SHORE Community Services is honoring Mr. Sam E.
6 Pfeffer with the 2004 Thomas and Lois Lloyd Humanitarian Award
7 that is named in honor of SHORE's founding family and is
8 bestowed upon an individual who has rendered outstanding
9 service and support to SHORE and to individuals who need the
10 help of others to enable them to have some quality of life in
11 our society; and
 
12     WHEREAS, SHORE Community Services has promoted the
13 well-being of adults and children with developmental
14 disabilities for over fifty years; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Sam E. Pfeffer has been a Board Member of SHORE
16 since 1992; during that time he has worked tirelessly to help
17 the agency secure a number of grants and gifts from various
18 individuals and companies; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Last year, SHORE had to secure additional
20 transportation when the Medi-Car vehicle program, which
21 provided transport to and from day programs, was halted; Mr.
22 Pfeffer worked with Trim-Tex Corporation to secure a
23 fifteen-passenger van to transport clients to SHORE's work
24 training center in Morton Grove; he has served as a member of
25 the Human-Rights Committee and on other committees for SHORE
26 during his tenure as Board Member; and
 
27     WHEREAS, Mr. Pfeffer is deeply involved in community
28 organizations; he has been on the Board or President of two
29 suburban synagogues, a Board Member of Mallinckrodt College, a
30 Vice-Chairman of the Wilmette Bi-Centennial Commission, a

1 Charter Board Member of the Catholic Orphans of Acapulco, and a
2 member of the Board of Columbia College in Chicago; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Mr. Pfeffer learned ventriloquism and performed
4 for children at hospitals and for philanthropic groups,
5 including SHORE; this past year, he spent a month in Israel as
6 a volunteer teaching English to Israelis of all ages, including
7 Ethiopian children and adults; Mr. Pfeffer received special
8 permission from the State Department of India to visit the
9 restricted areas of Manipour and Mazarim (near the Burmese
10 border) in late April and early May of 2004, where he will
11 dedicate a Torah to the children of the Bnai Menashee
12 community; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Pfeffer is a shining light doing humanitarian
14 deeds for people all over the world; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 congratulate Sam E. Pfeffer for his dedication to service in
18 the name of adults and children with developmental
19 disabilities; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to Sam E. Pfeffer as an expression of our respect and
22 esteem.
