 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The date of Wednesday March 12, 2003, marks  the
 3    91st  anniversary  of Girl Scouts of the USA, founded in 1912
 4    by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia; and

 5        WHEREAS, Throughout its long and  distinguished  history,
 6    Girl  Scouting  has inspired millions of girls and women with
 7    the highest ideals of character, conduct, and patriotism; and

 8        WHEREAS, Through Girl Scouting girls  grow  strong,  gain
 9    self-confidence  and skills for success, and learn their duty
10    to the world around them; and

11        WHEREAS, Girl Scouting takes an active role in increasing
12    the interest and skill  levels  of  today's  youth  in  math,
13    science,  and  technology  to  fulfill our country's economic
14    needs; and

15        WHEREAS, More than 3.8 million current Girl Scout members
16    nationwide will  be  celebrating  91  years  of  an  American
17    tradition,  with  nearly 50 million women who are former Girl
18    Scouts who can be mentors  to  help  today's  girls  succeed;
19    therefore, be it

20        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
21    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
22    we  designate  the week of March 9-15 as Girl Scout Week; and
23    be it further

24        RESOLVED, That we extend our congratulations to the  Girl
25    Scouts   of  the  USA  on  this  91st  anniversary  of  their
26    beginning; and be it further

27        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
28    presented to the Girl Scouts of the USA.
