SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
55 ILCS 5/3-6040 new

    Amends the Counties Code. Allows the sheriff of any county, with the approval of the county board and in cooperation with the chief judge of the circuit in which that county is located, to implement a pilot program providing for the conduct of status hearings through interactive video conferences. Provides that the sheriff shall report to the Governor and to the General Assembly concerning the use, costs, effectiveness, and future viability of interactive video conferences for status hearings.

1     AN ACT concerning video conferencing.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section
5 3-6040 as follows:
 
6     (55 ILCS 5/3-6040 new)
7     Sec. 3-6040. Interactive video conference pilot program.
8 In order to eliminate the burden of transporting prisoners to
9 other locations for status hearings, the sheriff of any county,
10 with the approval of the county board and in cooperation with
11 the chief judge of the circuit in which that county is located,
12 may implement a pilot program providing for the conduct of
13 status hearings through interactive video conferences. Within
14 6 months after the implementation of the pilot program, the
15 sheriff shall report to the Governor and to the General
16 Assembly regarding the use, costs, effectiveness, and future
17 viability of interactive video conferences for status
18 hearings.
