1     AN ACT concerning advisory referenda.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
5 9-1 and by adding Section 9-1.2 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/9-1)  (from Ch. 122, par. 9-1)
7     Sec. 9-1. Scope of article. All school elections shall be
8 governed by the general election law of the State, except as
9 otherwise provided in Section 9-1.2.

12     Sec. 9-1.2. Advisory referenda. By a vote of the majority
13 of the members of the board of education, the board may
14 authorize an advisory question of public policy to be placed on
15 the ballot at the next regularly scheduled election in the
16 school district. The board of education shall certify the
17 question to the proper election authority, which must submit
18 the question at an election in accordance with the Election
19 Code.
