SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Fred R. "Rick" Wendl of Colona,
4formerly of Erie, who passed away on October 6, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl was born to Frederick and Rosemary
6(Collins) Wendl in Dubuque, Iowa on March 27, 1948; he
7graduated from Alleman High School; he enlisted in the U.S.
8Army and served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Germany
9with the 178th Boxcar Assault Support Helicopter Company
10(ASHC); he married Judy Lannoo at St. John's Catholic Church
11in Rapids City on December 14, 1968, and they settled in Erie;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl worked at 3M in Cordova for over 35
14years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl proudly served as one of the original
16EMTs when the Erie Ambulance was founded, retiring as an EMTI
17after 39 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl was a longtime member of St. Ambrose
19Catholic Church and the Denton-Schreiner American Legion Post,
20both in Erie; and

1    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl enjoyed flying and even had his own
2helicopter; he was a diehard Cubs fan and an avid fisherman and
3bird watcher; he loved playing cards and games with his
4family; he was a big supporter of his children's and
5grandchildren's school activities and sports; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl was preceded in death by his parents;
7his brother, Terrance "Terry" Wendl; and his parents-in-law,
8George and Mildred Lannoo; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Fred Wendl is survived by his wife, Judy; his
10children, Paul Wendl, Cheryl (Troy) Graham, Joyce (Serg)
11Contreras, and Tim Wendl; his sister, Helene (Timothy)
12Waynick; his sister-in-law, Heidi Wendl; his aunt, Dolores
13Schiffman; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Graham, Zach, Ricky,
14and Joey Massa, Allie, Teddy, and Max Contreras, and Parker
15and Remi Wendl; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be
16it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Fred R. "Rick" Wendl and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
