SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Maurice E. "Jack" Flaherty of rural
4Alexis, who passed away at June 3, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was born to Arthur Joseph and Nora
6Marie (Bride) Flaherty in Galesburg, Florida on June 21, 1924;
7he was raised and educated in rural Alexis, Illinois; he
8graduated from Alexis High School in 1942; he served in the
9U.S. Army during World War II; he married Helen A. Pease in
10Carthage on December 1, 1950; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty farmed his entire life on the
12family farm just south of Alexis, retiring in the mid-1970s;
13he also worked as an overhead crane operator at the Rock Island
14Arsenal and as a foreman for the Illinois Department of
15Transportation Alexis Crew; he later served as road
16commissioner of the Kelly Township for seven years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was a member of St. Theresa's
18Catholic Church in Alexis, the Galesburg Elks Club, the
19Monmouth American Legion, the Monmouth VFW, and the Warren
20County Democrats, where he served as chairman for several
21years; and

1    WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty was preceded in death by his wife,
2Helen; his parents; his brother, Daniel Flaherty; his
3daughter, Beverly Peterson; his son, Scott Saunders; and his
4grandchildren, Jerry Peterson, Gary Saunders, William
5Flaherty, Erica Flaherty, and Ryan Bird; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jack Flaherty is survived by his sons, Daniel
7(Melinda) Flaherty and Pat (Cindy) Flaherty; his
8grandchildren, Ricky Peterson, Joyce (Scott McCurikan)
9Peterson, Debbie Peterson, Chris (Tami) Saunders, Mike
10(Teresa) Saunders, Jeremy (Jennifer) Flaherty, Jacque
11(Matthews) Schweighart, and Trevor Bird; and numerous
12great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; therefore,
13be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Maurice E. "Jack" Flaherty and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Jack Flaherty as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
