HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Pregnancy and infant loss is a common occurrence,
3one that is often not recognized; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Countless parents and families have suffered a
5miscarriage, a stillbirth, or the death of an infant during
6delivery or shortly after birth and experience a profound
7sense of grief as a result; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Even the shortest lives are valuable, and the
9grief of those who mourn the loss of these lives should not be
10trivialized; and
 
11    WHEREAS, This devastating tragedy often occurs suddenly
12and without warning as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth,
13Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), congenital birth defects,
14accident, or other causes or complications; and
 
15    WHEREAS, These parents and families require support and
16understanding during their time of grief; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The tragedy of pregnancy and infant loss, which
18exacts a terrible emotional toll, may be preventable in some
19instances; and

1    WHEREAS, Promoting awareness of the challenges faced by
2these parents and families is a positive means of establishing
3support and understanding; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Recognizing pregnancy and infant loss enables us
5to consider how, as individuals and communities, we can meet
6the needs of bereaved mothers, fathers, and family members and
7work to prevent the causes of these deaths; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Increased awareness of the causes and impacts
9surrounding pregnancy and infant loss may lead to greater
10understanding, support, and resources in communities across
11the world; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The 15th day of October is recognized in parts of
13the United States and in many other jurisdictions around the
14world as a day of remembrance and awareness of pregnancy and
15infant loss; in unity and support, The Trickster Cultural
16Center, a Native American and cultural arts center, is hosting
17a Baby Loss Journey Exhibit, curated by Native Veteran Jen
18Debouver, opening October 2, 2021; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we declare October 15, 2021 as Pregnancy and Infant Loss
22Awareness Day in the State of Illinois.
