SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James "Jim" E. Stack Jr. of Collinsville,
4who passed away on December 24, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Stack was born to James E. Stack Sr. and Wilma
6Rose (Grob) Stack in Granite City on July 20, 1947; he
7graduated from Granite City High School in 1965; he served in
8the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War; as a member of the
9Construction Battalion, he served 18 months in Da Nang Vietnam;
10he first served as a member of Naval Intelligence but mainly
11worked as a truck master for the Port of Da Nang; he was
12awarded the Navy Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with
13one Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Navy Unit
14Commendation Ribbon, and three commendations for breaking the
15record of materials shipped in one day and breaking that record
16twice more; he married Karen (Griffith) Stack in Edwardsville
17on November 27, 1985; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Stack first worked at McDonnell Douglas before
19joining the service; he then worked as a Rate Setter for the
20former General Steel Company, and he served as the Assistant
21Superintendent of Streets in Granite City; he had also owned
22and operated Stackorp, Inc./St. Louis Lead Recycling and Stack
23Environmental Consulting; later, he also co-owned and operated

1REDCO Marine and Stackers Restaurant; he retired in December
22013 from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 11
3years of dedicated service as the Urban Planning Unit Chief;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Stack was involved in his community throughout
6the years, serving on various boards and volunteering for many
7organizations; most recently, he was serving on the
8Collinsville Township Board of Trustees and as a Madison County
9Deputy Coroner; he had served as Madison County Democratic
10Party Chairman from June of 2012 until April of 2014; he was a
11member of the Masonic Lodge and Jesters and a lifetime members
12of AMVETS Post #204 in Madison; he was a member of the Ainad
13Shrine in East St. Louis and the Troy/Edwardsville Shrine Club
14and served on the Shriner's Honorary Guard and the director's
15staff; he was also a former Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in
16Granite City; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jim Stack enjoyed boating and fishing; he had many
18friends and was considered to be the life of the party; he knew
19how to have fun, cherished his grandchildren, and had an
20amazing array of accomplishments; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jim Stack was preceded in death by his parents and
22his aunt, Eleanor Buente; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Stack is survived by his wife of 35 years; his
2two stepchildren, Paul (Gigi) DeLuca and Laura DeLuca (Joe
3Pavlovec); his four grandchildren, Nigel DeLuca (Allison
4Kelly), Killian DeLuca, Aaron Stadts (Emily Otten), and Adam
5Stadts (Kylee Patterson); his six brothers, Daniel (Dil) Stack,
6Raymond Stack, Michael (Joann) Stack, Bradley (Patti) Stack,
7Anthony (Robin) Stack, and Stephen Stack; his two sisters,
8Kathleen (Dave) Cerny and Anna Marie "Amy" Stack; his
9sister-in-law, Kaye (Richard) Wilson; and many nieces,
10nephews, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13James "Jim" E. Stack Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Jim Stack as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
