2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Daniel Franklin "Dan" Manoyan of | ||||||
4 | Waukegan, who passed away on April 20, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan was born in Waukegan to Edward Manoian | ||||||
6 | and Elaine (Fox) Manoian on September 30, 1950; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Waukegan High School in 1968; he earned his Bachelor of | ||||||
8 | Arts in Journalism from the University of Illinois at | ||||||
9 | Urbana-Champaign in 1972; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan began his professional career as a | ||||||
11 | sports writer at the Kenosha News and spent the next five years | ||||||
12 | covering local sports in the Kenosha area; he joined the sports | ||||||
13 | staff at the Waukegan News-Sun in 1977, where he was delighted | ||||||
14 | to be a columnist for his hometown newspaper in the place that | ||||||
15 | had provided his father with the opportunity to create a new | ||||||
16 | life for himself and his children in America; he took a | ||||||
17 | position at the Dallas Morning News, which had one of the | ||||||
18 | leading sports sections in the country at the time, in 1988; he | ||||||
19 | landed a job with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel in 1992, where | ||||||
20 | he worked until his retirement in 2009; while there, he covered | ||||||
21 | many sports teams that hail from the State of Wisconsin, | ||||||
22 | including the Green Bay Packers, the University of Wisconsin | ||||||
23 | football and basketball teams, and the University of |

1 | Wisconsin-Madison basketball team; he also covered several PGA | ||||||
2 | Tour events during his career; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan published his first book, titled Men | ||||||
4 | of Granite, in 2007; he was inducted into the Illinois | ||||||
5 | Basketball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame for his work on | ||||||
6 | Men of Granite in 2013; he published his second book, titled | ||||||
7 | Alan Ameche: The Story of "The Horse", in 2012; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan was a golf enthusiast who felt lucky | ||||||
9 | to have had the opportunity to see and play at some of the | ||||||
10 | greatest golf courses in the world; he will be remembered as a | ||||||
11 | first-class father, a loving sibling and uncle, and a devoted | ||||||
12 | friend; he will be deeply missed by all those fortunate enough | ||||||
13 | to have known "Minnow"; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dan Manoyan is survived by his sons, Edward | ||||||
15 | Charles Manoyan and Randall Thomas Manoyan; his sisters, | ||||||
16 | Barbara Burke and Judith Dembinsky; his nephew, Richard | ||||||
17 | Dembinsky; and his nieces, Elaina Burke-Solie and Laura | ||||||
18 | Burke-Jarrell; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Daniel Franklin "Dan" Manoyan and extend our sincere | ||||||
22 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
