SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Luceille Marie (Gleim) Werner of the Long
4Point and Streator area, who passed away on July 6, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was born to Louis and Ina Gleim of
6rural Grand Ridge on October 26, 1925; she married Vincent
7Arthur Werner at the Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church
8in Streator on October 26, 1946; she earned her M.S. in
9Supervision and Administration from Illinois State University;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was an educator whose career
12spanned nearly six decades; she began as a teacher in a one
13room school house from 1944 to 1954; she was a fourth grade
14teacher at Long Point Grade School from 1955 to 1959; she
15served as the supervisor for Woodland, Long Point, and Wilson
16Elementary Schools from 1959 to 1966; next, she was the
17curriculum consultant for the Illinois North-Central Region;
18she then served as the director of the U.S. Department of
19Education's program On the Way to Success in Reading and
20Writing, which was implemented in 7,000 school districts across
21the nation from 1970 to 2002; she also helped expand the family
22farm operation; and

1    WHEREAS, Luceille Werner traveled the nation and the world
2as an ambassador for excellence in education; she received
3numerous awards and accolades for her service towards improving
4education, including being recognized on the floor of the
5Illinois Senate by Senator Jason Barickman and by proclamation
6from then-Governor Bruce Rauner in 2016; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was a member of several
8organizations, including P.E.O., the Athena Club, and the Lindy
9Club; she was a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist
10Church and taught Sunday school for 25 years; she served as
11president of the LaSalle County Historical Society twice and
12co-founded the LaSalle County Historical Society's Aitken One
13Room Schoolhouse program; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was preceded in death by her
15husband of 64 years, Vincent Arthur Werner; her parents; her
16daughter-in-law, Ann (Phillip); and her grandson, David; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Luceille Werner is survived by her sons, Phillip
18(the late Ann) and John (Joyce); her grandchildren, Deborah,
19Robert, Kristina, Jason (Laurie), Jeff (Elizabeth), and Joel
20(Kristin); her great-grandchildren, Jacob Jonathan, Claire
21Grace, Isla Elizabeth, Malachi Jeremiah, Vienna Elizabeth, and
22Gavin James; her sister, Mary (Davis) Small; and her several
23nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Luceille Marie (Gleim) Werner and extend our sincere
4condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5her; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Luceille Werner as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
