SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John M. "Jack" Ryan, who passed away on
4October 15, 2019 at the age of 92; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was born to Irish immigrants in Chicago;
6his parents passed away when he was seven, and he was raised by
7an aunt and uncle; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan attended DePaul University on the GI
9Bill after his service in the U.S. Army at the end of World War
10II; he furthered his education and earned a Master of Business
11Administration from the University of Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan began his career in advertising working
13for Tatham-Laird & Kudner and J. Walter Thompson; he then
14established his own marketing company; when he retired, he
15taught at Dominican University; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was devoted to reading and music; he
17loved Irish literature and folk music; he played guitar and
18would often sing folk songs for his children and their friends;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan worked on political campaigns and was an

1active member of the community; he was involved in adult
2education and community masses at Ascension and St. Giles
3parishes; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was a longtime resident of Oak Park; he
5was the former president of the Oak Park Village Manager
6Association; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was married to Joan for 64 years; he was
8described as gentle and sympathetic and as someone who always
9provided stimulating company; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was preceded in death by his brother,
11Joseph Ryan, and his sisters, Mary Ryan and Adelaide Leyden;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jack Ryan is survived by wife, Joan; his children,
14David (Theresa) Ryan, Sara (Malcolm) Warner, Patty (Brian)
15Faut, and Molly (Peter) Quinn; his grandchildren, Joseph
16(Courtney), Courtney, John and Maeve Ryan, Madeline and Charlie
17Warner, Conor, Gillian, and Ryan Faut, and Natalie and Benjamin
18Quinn; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21John M. "Jack" Ryan and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
