SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David Stanley Anderson of Jonesboro,
4Arkansas, who passed away on March 18, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Anderson was born to Stanley and Mildred
6Tenold Anderson in Fertile, Iowa on September 26, 1937; he grew
7up in Joice, Iowa on the family farm, where he cultivated a
8lifelong love of animals; he graduated from the University of
9Iowa in 1961 and worked in the Iowa City Parks and Recreation
10Department before moving his family to Normal, Illinois for the
11same position in 1965; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 1970, David Anderson was hired by the Town of
13Normal to become its first city manager; his many
14accomplishments in this role include the construction of the
15City Hall offices (now the annex) and city fire stations, the
16completion of the Constitution Trail, the Ironwood Golf Course
17and Subdivision, and the College Hills Mall, the redevelopment
18of 1 Normal Plaza, and the moving of Amtrak's station from
19Bloomington to Normal; he was also proud to have been involved
20in securing the Mitsubishi automotive plant in Normal; after 29
21years of service, David retired in 1998; upon retirement, Ash
22City Park in Normal was renamed Anderson Park to honor David's
23accomplishments; and

1    WHEREAS, David Anderson was an active member of St. John's
2Lutheran Church in Bloomington and the First United Methodist
3Church in Jonesboro; during his retirement, he was active with
4the ICMA as a Range Rider, helping other towns find city
5administrators; he was an active volunteer with Mended Hearts,
6the United Way, and Safe Harbor and was an NEA Baptist Hospital
7"Pink Lady" volunteer; and
 
8    WHEREAS, David Anderson was preceded in death by his former
9wives, Sandra J. Anderson and BJ Anderson; and
 
10    WHEREAS, David Anderson is survived by his four children,
11Greg (Glenda) Anderson, Shari (Steve) Mientus, Todd (Tammy)
12Anderson, and Joni (Mark) McNabb; his nineteen grandchildren;
13his six great-grandchildren; and all those who knew him as
14Grandpa Dave; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17David Stanley Anderson and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of David Anderson as an expression of
