SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James A. "Jim" Doerfler, who passed away
4on April 17, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was born in Springfield to Fred W.
6and Pauline C. (Schmelter) Doerfler on July 25, 1929; he served
7in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Rita R.
8Patton in Springfield in 1952; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was a professional engineer in
10Illinois and a registered land surveyor in Illinois, Missouri,
11Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Kentucky; he retired
12from the engineering consulting firm of Crawford, Murphy and
13Tilly in January of 1991; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was a member of the National Society
15of Professional Engineers Illinois, the Illinois Society of
16Professional Engineers, the Missouri Association of Registered
17Land Surveyors, the American Congress on Survey and Mapping,
18the American Arbitration Associations, the International Right
19of Way Association, and the Knights of Columbus; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was preceded in death by his parents;
21his brothers, Robert, Gene, and George Doerfler; and his

1sisters, Shirley Ann Doerfler and Mary C. "Mae" Chambers; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler is survived by his wife, Rita; his
3sons, David (Karen), Michael (Becky), Steve (Nancy), Terry
4(Susan), and Darrin (Dana) Doerfler; his daughter, Merrie Karen
5(Michael) Hiefner; 17 grandchildren; and 24
6great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9James A. "Jim" Doerfler and extend our sincere condolences to
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Jim Doerfler as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
