SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Shirley Kaufman Koos of Bloomington, who
4passed away on April 18, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shirley Koos was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Ralph
6and Belle Schwartz Kaufman on May?7, 1945; she graduated from
7Cleveland Heights High School and received a bachelor's degree
8in social work from Ohio State University; she served in the
9Peace Corps from 1967 to 1969 and obtained a master's degree at
10Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of
11Chicago; she married Robert A. "Bob" Koos in 1973; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Shirley Koos had a strong desire to serve her
13community; she volunteered for the Star Early Literacy program
14and was involved with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate
15Association); she worked for PATH and for many years was a
16volunteer with International Friends at Illinois State
17University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Shirley Koos and Bob were committed to the
19international community and introduced many students to local
20community life; they were also legacy donors to the Illinois
21Prairie Community Foundation, supporting the Community Health
22Care Clinic of Bloomington-Normal; and

1    WHEREAS, Shirley Koos was preceded in death by her husband,
2Bob; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Shirley Koos is survived by her brothers-in-law,
4Greg (Carol) and Chris Koos; her sisters-in-law, Karen
5(Harold)?Strebe?and Maurita (Ken) Wey; her cousins, Molly
6Perry, Seth Arnold, Randal Carlson, and the David Firestone
7family; and her dear friends, Janet Hoffman, Ethan and Nancy
8Evans, Carol (Dennis) Clarke, Cardena Clarke, Joy Evans
9Hastings, and Barbara Henry-Phillips; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Shirley Kaufman Koos and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Shirley Koos as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
