SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The month of March is Women's History Month and
3celebrates the significant contributions women of all races,
4ethnicities, and backgrounds have made to the world; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Women play a critical role in the vitality and
6diversity of our communities and are essential to ensuring
7Illinois is well-represented; and
 
8    WHEREAS, While the 20th century was a pivotal time of
9growth for women in politics, women remain underrepresented in
10male-dominated fields, and therefore, providing opportunities
11to support women in public office is imperative; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Recognizing women in public office will bring
13awareness to the fundamental necessity of their work and will
14inspire other young people to serve their communities; and
 
15    WHEREAS, This year, March 19 was national Celebrating Women
16in Public Office Day which brought together women from all over
17the world to celebrate the accomplishments and selfless service
18of elected women; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 28,

12019 as Celebrating Women in Public Office Day, support the
2success of women in public office, and encourage the people of
3Illinois to observe this day with appropriate activities,
4events, and programs; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Jessica Becker, Executive Director of the
7Conference of Women Legislators, as a symbol of our respect and
8esteem.
