SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The healthcare community, including hospitals,
3medical clinics, mental health facilities, long-term care
4facilities, and private physicians, does not have a standard
5military inquiry upon intake or admission; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Only 16% of military veterans receive all of their
7healthcare from VA hospitals, medical clinics, mental health
8facilities, long-term care facilities, and private physician
9offices; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Veterans have potentially unique healthcare
11concerns; providers need to be aware of every patient or
12resident's veteran status and be educated on the best practices
13when providing care; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that healthcare providers
16are urged to include on each patient intake form a question
17asking "Have you or your spouse ever served in the military?";
18and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That healthcare providers are urged to institute
20a process that informs all organizational staff of a patient or
21resident's veteran status; and be it further

2education to all organizational staff on veteran-specific best
3practices; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That healthcare professional organizations are
5urged to provide veteran-specific education at conferences and
6through publications.
