HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Shirley Ann (Kramer) Hall for
4her 79 years as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall was born in Centralia to Paul and
6Helen Kramer on September 8, 1932; she is one of eight
7children; she is the widow of LTC Ronald J. Hall, a Korean War
8veteran; they have one son, Bruce Alan (Kathy) Hall, and two
9grandsons, Eric Lawrence Hall and Jason Lawrence Hall; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall joined the George M. Nelms Post 446
11of the American Legion Auxiliary in Centralia at the age of
12nine in September 1941; she was eligible to join the American
13Legion Auxiliary through her father's service in the U.S. Army;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall served as president of the Salem Unit
16128, 23rd District, 5th Division of the American Legion
17Auxiliary from 1957 to 1958 and 1964 to 1965, in addition to
18four terms while her late husband served as Post 128 Commander
19from 1994 to 1998, and currently serves as the Salem Auxiliary
20Historian; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall served as president of the Junior

1Auxiliary, where her mother was also a member; she also served
2on the Illinois Veterans Commission as an itinerant secretary
3in the 1960s; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall has been involved in a number of
5organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
6Auxiliary, the Eight & Forty, The Disabled American Veterans
7(DAV) where she is a lifetime member, the Egyptian Past
8Presidents Club, and the Centralia Post 2055 of the Veterans of
9Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary as a past president; she also
10supports the American Legion Child Welfare Fund; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall has joined the local American Legion
12Auxiliary wherever she has lived over the years, including
13serving as the Quincy Hospital Representative for the American
14Legion Auxiliary; she has also participated in many Veterans
15Day and Memorial Day programs; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Some of Shirley Hall's most memorable experiences
17include making tray favors for veterans as a Junior Auxiliary
18member, distributing poppies every year, and learning how to
19conduct a meeting; one of her fondest memories was being
20installed as Auxiliary Unit President when her son presented
21her with a bouquet of red roses; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Shirley Hall continues her service to the American

1Legion Auxiliary as a longtime member of the Luther B. Easley
2Post 128 in Salem; she celebrates 79 years as an active
3continuous American Legion Auxiliary member in 2020, making her
4the longest serving Auxiliary member in Illinois history and
5the second longest serving in the United States; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we commend Shirley Ann Hall on her drive, conviction, and
10life-long commitment to support our military veterans as a
11member of the American Legion Auxiliary for the past 79 years
12and are proud of her efforts to make a difference in her
13community; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Shirley Hall as a symbol of our respect and
16esteem.
