HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Each year sudden cardiac arrest claims the lives
3of more than 300,000 Americans outside of the hospital; it
4strikes people of all levels of fitness, and it usually strikes
5without warning; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In many cases, sudden cardiac arrest is caused by
7an abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation that
8prevents the heart from pumping blood; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The treatment for ventricular fibrillation is
10defibrillation, which is the delivery of an electric shock to
11the heart that stops ventricular fibrillation and allows a
12normal heart rhythm to resume; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Providing defibrillation on-site with an
14Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can significantly
15increase survival rates for ventricular fibrillation cardiac
16arrest; and
 
17    WHEREAS, HSHS St. John's Hospital and its volunteers have
18assisted in the continuation of AED programs at the Illinois
19House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate by providing
20life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED
21training for General Assembly employees on June 13, 2019; and

1    WHEREAS, HSHS St. John's Hospital volunteer instructors
2and staff for the 2019 General Assembly employee training
3session were De Barber, Sherry Day, Tara Fadden, Oran Friend,
4Scott Gaddy, James Geiselman, Mary Georgene Jones, Dorothy
5Kane, Amanda Peabody, Theresa Shuey, Jean Skube, and Dawn
6Winebright; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we commend HSHS St. John's Hospital for its efforts to save
10lives through education and training, and we thank the
11volunteer instructors for providing CPR and AED training for
12General Assembly employees; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14presented to HSHS St. John's Hospital and the volunteer
15instructors as an expression of our gratitude for their role in
16providing heart-health education and life-saving training.
