HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Between 1917 and 1918, the active years of
3American combat in World War I, business people all over
4Illinois found themselves working together to support the war
5effort; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After the coming of peace on November 11, 1918, a
7day now remembered as Veterans Day, many business people
8throughout the State wanted to maintain the ties that had
9brought them together; and
 
10    WHEREAS, On May 27, 1919, in celebration of the return of
11peace and prosperity and with high hopes for the future, 24
12business leaders met in Quincy with plans to create a statewide
13business organization that would promote and protect the
14business climate in Illinois; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Secretary of State's office chartered the
16Illinois Chamber of Commerce on August 2, 1919; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Many businesses throughout Illinois joined the
18new organization and raised resources to open the Chamber's
19office in Springfield in 1923; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Since 1919, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce has

1used its resources to sponsor, publish, promote, and distribute
2research on issues important to the Illinois economy and its
3ability to maintain and create jobs; and
 
4    WHEREAS, In 2019, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce has
5continued to take the lead in speaking out in favor of
6Illinois' business community and advocating for pro-employment
7and pro-growth policies throughout the State; and
 
8    WHEREAS, This year, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce is
9celebrating its 100th anniversary as an entity that fights for
10and protects workplaces, economic growth, and the development
11of Illinois as a good place to live and to create jobs;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate the Illinois Chamber of Commerce on its 100
16years of support for economic development in Illinois and wish
17them many more successful years; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Todd Maisch, President and Chief Executive Officer
20of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.
