HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Colleen
4Ann Davis, who passed away on May 22, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Colleen Davis was born in Chicago to Walter Davis
6and Kathleen (Davis) Thomas on February 5, 1973; she attended
7Irving Elementary School and Hawthorne Junior High School and
8graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School; she
9attended Triton College in River Grove; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Colleen Davis most recently worked at the National
11Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), where she was a speaker
12and community advocate for mental health; she received her
13certification to become a Recovery Support Specialist from
14NAMI; she was passionate about helping people and advocating
15for mental health in the African American community; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Colleen Davis was baptized at Christ Tabernacle
17Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang with the Cherub
18Choir; she later joined Neighborhood United Methodist Church;
19she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Janiya, whom
20she loved dearly; she never lost her zest for singing; in her
21spare time, she would sing karaoke at different locations in
22the area with friends; and

1    WHEREAS, Colleen Davis was preceded in death by her mother,
2Kathleen Thomas; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Colleen Davis is survived by her father, Melvin
4Thomas; her daughters, Kaylene Bellamy and Kiana Boyd; her
5granddaughter, Janiya Carroll; her sister, Vanessa (Anthony)
6Crittenden; her nephews, Quinton "Quinny" and Kendall "Kenny"
7Sloan; her dearest friend, Sophie Braddock; and numerous
8uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we mourn the passing of Colleen Ann Davis and extend our
13sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Colleen Davis as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
