HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3saddened to learn of the passing of former Aurora Mayor Thomas
4J. Weisner, who passed away December 28, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In a show of his devotion to the belief that we
6can make the world a better place, Thomas Weisner joined the
7Peace Corps in 1981 with his wife, Marilyn; and
 
8    WHEREAS, While serving in the Peace Corps for five years,
9Thomas Weisner helped create health and nutrition improvement
10projects for those who needed it most; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Upon his return to Aurora, Thomas Weisner began a
12lifetime career of service to the city of Aurora and was
13elected mayor in 2005, a position in which he served for three
14terms; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Thomas Weisner thoughtfully guided Aurora through
16the economic troubles brought on by the 2008 recession; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Thomas Weisner continued to be an advocate for the
18disadvantaged by serving on several boards that benefitted the
19lives of those in need; and

1    WHEREAS, Thomas Weisner was vital to the success of Aurora
2and helped to shape a new generation of leaders for the town;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Thomas Weisner is survived by his wife, Marilyn;
5his son, Anthony; his grandchildren, Olivia and Zoe; and many
6beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we mourn the passing of former Aurora Mayor Thomas J. Weisner
10and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
11all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Thomas Weisner in recognition of a
14life dedicated to serving others.
