HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Martha A. "Marti"
4Bierdeman on the occasion of her retirement from East Peoria
5Elementary School District 86, where she has been a fifth grade
6teacher for gifted students; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marti Bierdeman began her career at North County
8Christian School in St. Louis, teaching sixth grade; she moved
9to Elmwood Elementary School and began teaching fifth grade
10math and science and coaching the girls basketball team; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marti Bierdeman took a break from teaching to
12raise her three children, Christopher, Katherine, and Cory,
13with her husband, Paul; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Marti Bierdeman returned to teaching as a
15substitute teacher at Peoria Christian School; from there she
16took a position as a long-term substitute and then became a
17full-time teacher at Paul Bolin Elementary School in District
1886; she was given her own 5th grade class to teach in 1998 and
19was then asked to teach the 5th grade gifted students in 2002;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Marti Bierdeman frequently brought exciting

1learning experiences to her students with activities both
2inside and outside the classroom, such as building Rube
3Goldberg machines, mouse trap racers, and the rocket launch;
4the Rube Goldberg machines won a local Engineer in the
5Classroom Award four times and the statewide award twice; she
6also coached the Lego League from 2006-2018, and the team
7advanced to the Illinois State Tournament every year; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Marti Bierdeman's commitment to her students went
9beyond learning activities; she applied for grants to further
10her students' education and was able to secure grants from the
11Toshiba America Foundation, PNC Teacher, and the District 86
12Foundation; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In recognition of her dedication and achievement,
14the East Peoria City Council named April 1, 2003 Marti
15Bierdeman Day; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we congratulate Martha A. "Marti" Bierdeman on her retirement
19from Paul Bolin Elementary School, and we commend her lifelong
20dedication to education; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented Marti Bierdeman as an expression of our esteem and
