HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Immanuel Lutheran Church
4of Palatine on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On February 20, 1869, a meeting was held on the
6platform of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in Palatine to
7discuss the creation of a Lutheran congregation; and
 
8    WHEREAS, On March 9, 1869, the Battermann, Engelking, Greb,
9Hartung, Knickrehm, Prellberg, Senne, Schirding, and Schroeder
10families met to officially organize a congregation and create
11the church to be known as the Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel
12Congregation Unaltered Augsburg Confessions of Palatine; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The congregation later joined the Lutheran
14Church-Missouri Synod on May 4, 1873; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Immanuel Lutheran Church had humble beginnings;
16the church was heated by a potbellied stove and had a
17pump-organ that was operated by a person hidden behind a door
18who would pump throughout each song while the organ played; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Until World War II, the main language spoken in
20the church was German; it was stopped due to anti-German

1sentiment; and
 
2    WHEREAS, At least ten members of the Immanuel Lutheran
3Church have become pastors; and
 
4    WHEREAS, To this day, the Immanuel Lutheran Church of
5Palatine provides its local community with both traditional and
6contemporary services, adult education, youth, women and men's
7ministries, as well as web broadcasts; the church also operates
8an award-winning school with classes from pre-school to eighth
9grade; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Immanuel Lutheran Church will be commemorating
11its anniversary with a year-long celebration titled, "Living a
12Legacy of Faith"; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Immanuel Lutheran Church of Palatine on the
16occasion of its 150th anniversary; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the congregation of the Immanuel Lutheran Church
19of Palatine as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
